Andres Izquierdo (b. 1977, Bogotá, Colombia) explores the intersection of identity, power, and collective memory through dynamic oil paintings. His work is deeply influenced by Colombia’s history of conflict and the drug trade, by his work in international intellectual property policy in Geneva, Switzerland, and artistically, by Dutch portrait painting and by Impressionism’s use of light. He examines how these forces shape societal perceptions and historical narratives.
Andrés is a Colombian-American artist whose portrait-based oil paintings reimagine iconic figures and historical moments. Through bold color, contrast, and visual tension, his work explores the layered intersections of power, memory, and environmental disruption. Drawing from personal experience and social history, Andrés brings forward themes of legacy, trauma, and reckoning.
Izquierdo’s work has been exhibited at the Katzen Rotunda at American University, Washington, DC, Portico Gallery, City, St, and Transformer Gallery, Washington, D.C. He delivered an artist talk about Caldwell at the National Gallery of Art (NGA) in Washington, DC, in 2023. Izquierdo lives and works between Washington, DC. and Geneva, Switzerland.
